Utilities Sector
How our safety app can support the utilities sector
Lone working has become commonplace for those working in the utilities sector. Many employees regularly travel between, and work on, sites alone or carry out work in empty properties and client homes. While working alone is usually safe, lone working brings with it additional risk, as any danger faced is faced alone.
The StaySafe app ensures lone workers have a way to signal for help in any situation. A panic button can be used at any time, while missed check-in and session expiry alerts will send an alarm if the lone worker cannot. Non-movement will be detected if an employee has been incapacitated while fall detection sends an alert in the event of an accident.

Risks for lone workers in the Utilities sector
Working across a range of environments and with hazardous equipment and materials, utilities workers are exposed to some of the leading causes of workplace accidents and fatalities, such as:
Slips, trips and falls
Injuries from lifting/handling
Being struck by an object
Being injured by machinery
Falls from height
As well as these most common risks, workers are also exposed to other hazards which, if safety measures are not in place, can have detrimental consequences. For example:
Working near water
Working in confined spaces
Working with electricity
Working with hazardous substances
Driving
Working behind closed doors

How StaySafe helps protect your lone workers in the utilities industry
At StaySafe, we have specifically-designed functionality to overcome common lone worker challenges faced in the utilities industry. A panic button can be pressed at any time to signal for help, while missed check-ins and man-down alerts will notify someone even when a lone worker is unable to reach their phone.
The StaySafe app gives employers visibility of the location and safety status of lone workers in an emergency and allows them to check-in safely once they have finished a lone working or travel session. A note taking facility allows lone workers to add extra details to a session such as with whom they are meeting or where in a building they are based.
If an employee activates the app’s panic button or fails to check in, alerts are instantly visible in the online StaySafe monitoring hub. Chosen managers are automatically notified via text, call and email. With StaySafe, you can protect your employees wherever they are and whenever they need help
Why the Utilities sector loves the StaySafe monitoring solution
“StaySafe is an efficient and value saving solution that allows us to monitor all of our front-line employees distributed over a large geographical spread, from one place.”
A-Jay Medwid
“Our workers out in the field now feel reassured that they will receive help should they ever require it even in remote areas or while working out of hours. With the ability to set up check-in intervals, which we have set for every half hour, we are immediately alerted if an employee fails to check-in and we can send them the appropriate assistance.”
Padraic Dolan
“StaySafe is a great tool with lots of really useful features. If an employee panics or misses a check-in and can’t be contacted, not only can we now locate which site they are working on, but also where they are on the site”
Greg Saunders
“Set up of the app was very quick and we were all impressed with its simplicity. Our staff are really pleased with the app and feel much more comfortable knowing that they have it with them. The customer service we have received from StaySafe has been excellent and the solutions they provide are great value for money”.
Stephen Kidley
“Our investigators carry a lot of equipment as part of their roles when conducting visits. When we rolled out StaySafe we were pleased to discover that the solution required no additional device other than a smartphone which investigators already carry with them. It’s great that we have been able to find a health and safety solution that is easily accessible and still able to provide reliable protection from the possible environmental hazards on site. The whole system is very user-friendly and simple to use, something we were looking for in a safety solution. Each investigator was taken through the application and follow up has been excellent.”
